Services for Architects, Planners and Developers
At Spencer Heritage Services, we believe that a deep understanding of a heritage asset helps to identify and protect elements of significance and can inspire innovative designs that enrich the historic environment. We undertake in-depth historic research and support our colleagues through the design and planning processes. Our work is often supported by local councils, amenity groups and historic societies. Our approach provides clarity, enables projects to be planned effectively and run smoothly, on time and within budget. Through years of experience in the field we have forged strong working relationships with archivists, local historians, specialist archaeological advisors, amenity societies and conservation officers across the country.
Assessment of Heritage Significance and Heritage Impact Assessments
We provide standalone Assessments of Heritage Significance and Impact Assessments or can work collaboratively with your team to produce a heritage assessment to be included in your Design and Access Statement.
Through each project we adopt a staged approach, working closely with the Local Authority conservation departments and archaeological advisors to identify key issues at the outset and create dialogue about the future of a site at an early stage. Our assessments of significance are highly detailed and can help to guide design choices.
Archaeological Building Recording
We produce all levels of Archaeological Building records in line with Historic England and CIfA guidance, from levels 1-4. We can produce these documents quickly and efficiently, to ensure your projects can move forward as soon as possible.
If we have been involved in your case during the pre application stage we can often anticipate when an archaeological building record will be required as a condition of planning permission or Listed Building Consent. In some cases, we can undertake this work prior to submission of an application, which reduces expensive delays further down the line.
Archaeological Desk Based Assessment
With professional field archaeologists on staff, we have a wealth of experience in producing Archaeological Desk Based Assessments in line with Historic England and CIfA guidance. With experts in both archaeology and historic architecture, our multidisciplinary team can assess sites with a variety of heritage assets, keeping costs and time delays of using various subcontractors to a minimum.
